Hello World... here I am...
Hello everyone! On Wednesday, March 27, 2013, mom decided to have me - I really didn't have any say! She must have been super anxious to meet me - and who could blame her?
Well, after I got all cleaned and weighed - a whopping 5lbs 15ozs - they handed me to daddy to hold until mom was ready to head back to recovery.
Funny, she kept saying that I look like this kid Brady - I wonder who he is?? Must be a good looking kid!

...and again, not without complications!
When we arrived in the room, Grandma and Grandpa showed up shortly after to welcome me. They seem super nice! And funny, they brought that Brady kid mommy kept talking about. Apparently, he's my Big Brother, and we will be living together. He seems nice, but I will have to get to know him a little more - I hope he likes me.
I had fun spending time with them, but Brady got really tired and cranky, and Grandma and Grandpa had to take him home. Hope it wasn't me...
Then I got to spend some alone time with mommy and daddy before meeting a few more people. My auntie, uncle, and 3 cousins visited. I enjoyed meeting more family, and quickly realized I am going to have my hands full with them!!
As I was relaxing in my little plastic bed, a nurse came in and stabbed me with a needle! Seriously? Is this what life is going to be like?? A few minutes later she said "Uh-Oh" and explained that my blood sugar was very low. She took me to the NICU and fed me some formula. Afterwards, she brought me back to mom and dad. A little while later she came back, and stabbed me again!! And again, said "Uh-oh". She then took me and my bed to the same NICU place, and didn't let me go back to mom and dad. That made me sad.
The nurses in the Special Care Nursery are so nice. I do like them, but I would rather be bunking with mom and dad. But, on my second day there, they put me in this nice little house. Apparently I expel too many calories trying to stay warm, so this house is set at a nice summery 80 degrees.

Just when I got all cozy, a nurse felt the need to stab my heal again! Low, again. So, I thought maybe if I just throw them a big number the next time, they will stop poking me. So, I did. And that made everyone happy! Mom and dad were there with the Dr when I gave them a good number. So, I thought they would leave me alone. Well, to my surprise, they poked me again! I wasn't prepared, so the number was low. Apparently that was a big set-back. They INCREASED my IV and told mom and dad that it's going to have to be a long, slow wean. Oh well - I suppose I need to concentrate on my levels and cooperate with the Drs and Nurses.
What's really neat is that mommy gets to visit me every 3 hours to take my temperature, change my diaper, and feed me. The nurses joke that she should work in the NICU with them! Mommy knows how to unhook all my wires, and how to hook me back up in the private room where I eat all my meals with her. But she keeps telling me that she wants me home - I suppose home is better than the little room we hang out in! |
Well, that's all for now. Mom started a post-discharge blog to document all the goals set for getting me (and mom) out of this place! ENJOY!!
